The times, they are a’changing. Independent record companies are hard pressed to compete with the majors if they try to go head to head with their outmoded tactics. Conversely, putting the wants and needs of the artist leaves little for the label to prosper upon. Bands that don’t pull their weight can really leave the label in a tough spot, and CDs don’t sell if the band isn’t doing their part.
Some lessons are learned the hard way, and at a sometimes high cost. We’re not exempt from this, and are regrouping to better serve bands that have the willpower to help themselves. After years of establishing solid branding, Robot Monster will continue on as the means by which horror bands can publish releases while being guided by a co-op label.
Pre-release planning and consultation:
Recommendations and price / service comparisons from CD pressing plants, electronic distribution, discuss pros and cons of various formats, release schedule planning, tour planning, and the little bits in between. We have reviewers ready to check out your work, provide honest feedback, and know that they’re not going to post your release on some Ukrainian music blog before you get a chance to sell some discs!
Album layout / design / art:
With years of graphic design experience, we can provide the art, designs, and layouts to give your release the professional look that many genre releases unfortunately lack. Our latest success story is the debut from Darrow Chemical Company. We provided the artwork, layouts, design and release consultation, and all in fairly short order. Get hold of us with your ideas and we can turn them into something solid!
Online presence / website:
Social network sites come and go – MySpace is a great example of the rise and fall – and while they have their place, your best bet is to have and maintain a core home site that will always be there. Use the social network sites to push people there so you’re not relying on the whims of others. We’ll set you up with everything you need to run your own site, show you where to host the site if need be, how to incorporate easy to manage e-commerce, and guide communication from your fans to you.
After Release:
By the time your release is out, the profits are yours. And why not? You’ve earned it. We only charge up front for our art,design and web services. Consulting? That’s just part of us helping you help yourselves. You get to add the Robot Monster branding to your release, and you are part of the label. By the bands, for the bands.
